My name is Ilia Toshkin and as an artist, I believe in personal and immediate interaction as a way to reveal symbolic meaning in performance art. In the performances I do with my fellow colleagues, I create immersive environments where visitors interact with characters created in on our group work with a specific space and its atmosphere.
I know that imagination is not just a specific resource at the artist’s disposal for the creation of artworks. Neither is it only a question of cultural and social contexts. Imagination is an invaluable faculty of the human mind that is both personal and collective. Entering its landscapes is an endeavour of both the artist and the visitor of the artwork.
For me, the one-on-one interaction setting is a way of showing the ultimate capabilities of human consciousness. Intimacy creates boundless opportunities for the senses to be used as a an instant generator of interactive meaning.
Moreover, their power to reflect the inner emotional state of the visitor makes immersive performance an interesting therapeutic instrument that is yet to be discovered and researched by society and the arts.
