The groom that followed his own path

“The groom that followed his own path” was an interactive post, made by me and Zlatina Toleva as part of the Labyrinth installation Terminal Eternity made by Sensory Theatre Sofia back in 2013 in an empty retail space in Bulgaria Mall in Sofia, Bulgaria. In the first part of the space, the visitors were passing through a succession of posts, dealing with the personal human world, and reached the second part of the space, which was brighter, more open and represented the cosmos. Just before the transition between the two spaces was our post, dealing with love and repulsion.

At the end of a long dark tunnel on which a ghostly woman with a stroller accompanies the visitors while singing a lullaby, they encounter a strangely big keyhole revealing a room with a man, a woman and a little tree in an old TV-set. At first, the woman puts on a necklace and some make-up in front of a mirror, opens up an old cardboard suitcase and turns on a record player inside it. Then she attempts to attract the attention of the man who continues staring at the tree in the TV-set. At some moment in time, he begins dancing with her but very soon he pushes her away and comes back to his beloved solemn activity. The woman becomes desperate; she stands at the keyhole as if in front of an icon, and pronounces a prayer to Saint Mother of God in Italian while looking at the eyes of the visitor.
